KATHMANDU — The Election Commission on Tuesday flagged 14 districts spanning four provinces under enhanced security protocols ahead of the federal poll scheduled for spring 2027.

The list, published on the EC's official portal, includes Rolpa, Rukum East and West, Surkhet, Jajarkot, Salyan, Pyuthan, Dailekh, Kalikot, Mugu, Jumla, Dolpa, Humla and Bajura.

Officials told reporters the security designation does not imply heightened tension in those districts — instead, it reflects logistical complexity: difficult terrain, low polling-station density, and historical close races that demanded multi-day recounts in prior cycles.

"This is the most detailed plan we have published in a decade," said EC spokesperson Suman Lal Karna.

The plan allocates 38 additional polling officers per district, a sixfold increase in observation drones, and pre-positioned medical units in three of the four provinces.
